I need to enclose my balcony as my cat keeps catching lizards and the occasional bird.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about netting your balcony for your cat.
To simplify the netting pattern, I suggest building a timber frame in a box like fashion as seen here in this discussion - How to build a catio? by @Mel_K. My suggestion was to build a square frame to simplify the building of a catio complex. You can modify it so that you have a door or add shelves for the cat to hang out on. But what is important is that the cat is kept safe inside this structure.
Once the frame is built the netting can be stapled to the frame and there is no need for heavy duty net fixings.
