Fence makeover! Removing and installing lattice

Hi all!

We are undertaking a fence makeover and need some advice on removing and installing new lattice (about 20 metres worth). So far we've painted the fence with Monument and really happy with how its come up (hot tip, the Ozito $50 spray gun worked an absolute treat and got two coats done in a day).

The lattice is hammered into the fence post which extend above the palings. We tried to pull one down just with the claw of a hammer but they are hammered in tight. Would a crowbar make light work of this job? Or any other suggestions for taking it down? Then with installing new lattice, is it as simple as just hammering it up? We will spray it on drop sheets before installing.

Thanks so much!

Re: Fence makeover! Removing and installing lattice

Hi @Nadine1,

It sounds like you are on the right track. A crowbar will make work a lot easier and allow you more leverage in getting the timber off. You might like to just start by pulling off the horizontal pieces to get better access to the one which is hammered in. If that fails then take a timber saw and start cutting it apart, you'll soon get to a point where you can just remove the rest.

With the new lattice, I would recommend screwing it in as it could be less effort than having to use nails.

Please keep us updated on your project and let us know if you run into any difficulties.

Mitchell
