Hello
Has anyone DIY'd a canopy (or otherwise enclosed) for their trampoline type dog bed (like the type shown below)? To add some shade/wind protection.
Hi @MeganHardy,
You could definitely DIY a canopy for a trampoline-style dog bed, and there are a few simple approaches you could take depending on how permanent you want it to be. One option is to create a lightweight frame using electrical conduit bent into an arch over the bed and secured to the bed’s legs with cable ties. You can then cover it with outdoor shade cloth for protection from the sun and some wind.
Another easy method is to repurpose a small pop-up beach shelter by placing the bed inside it – this avoids building a frame from scratch and can be packed away when not needed.
If you want something more robust, you could build a timber frame slightly larger than the bed, attach shade cloth or outdoor fabric to the sides and top, and leave one side open for access. This gives excellent stability and can look quite tidy.
I actually used one of these beds to construct a fully enclosed house, with weatherboard cladding and corrugated roofing. I've added a rendering of it below. I just started by screwing a simple timber frame to the bed and cladding it.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
