hi there,
whats sort of concrete should i use to make a small concrete base for lamppost?
Thanks
Jeff
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @JeffWang. It's a pleasure to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about concrete.
For a small lamppost, a standard pre-mixed concrete will work perfectly fine. The main thing is to make sure the base is large and heavy enough to keep the post stable and prevent it from being pushed over.
As a rough guide, if the lamppost is around 1800mm tall, I’d suggest using at least three 20kg bags of concrete for the footing. You’ll also want to dig a hole that’s deep enough to securely hold the post and allow the concrete to surround it on all sides.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
Thanks Mitchell for your reply. How big the hole needs to be dogged by using 3 bags of 20kgs concrete? Thanks, Jeff
Thanks, do I need put some crushed rock into the hole before I put concrete? What sort of product should I buy?
thanks
Hi @JeffWang,
Adding around 50mm of drainage gravel to the base of the hole and compacting it with a tamper would be worthwhile.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
