How to extend Colorbond fence to hang festoon lights?

Hi Bunnings team,

My partner and I want to do a DIY project over coming days to add festoon lights to the backyard. We got 30m Festoon lights solar already.

I have drawn over in the photo what I'm thinking to do.

Can I please get some input about products I would need to accomplish this?Screenshot 2025-10-11 at 10.26.08 am.png

Re: How to extend Colorbond fence to hang festoon lights?

Hi @gaganprachi,

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

The simplest solution would be to attach some pieces of 70 x 35mm Outdoor Framing H3 Treated Pine to the posts of your Colorbond fence using 50mm Hex Head Tek Screws.

You can then attach screw hooks to these timbers to hang your festoon lights from.

On the house side, you can use these Arlec Entertainment Light Gutter Clips to hang your lights from.

Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

We were thinking more in realm of matching the existing colourbind fence colour. Are there think metal poles that we can get to do that?

Hi @gaganprachi,

You can use COLORBOND® Fencing Post Extensions in the same colour as your fence. They are designed so you can install infill panels like these Colorbond 0.3 x 2.35m Fencing Lattice, but you could always just mount some hooks to them if you'd like to.

Check out Step 2 in How to add an extension to a Colorbond fence for some guidance on installing the fence post extensions.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Jacob
