Hello,
Our timber fence has these gaps in it, it’s just the way it’s been constructed. It’s a pain as the neighbours weeds are always growing through the gaps.
What’s the best way to fix the gaps? Can you put another panel over the top of the gap?
Thank you
Hello @jordynhilton
Thanks for sharing your question about covering the gaps in your fence.
Generally speaking, it is possible to cover the gap with timber paling such as 100 x 16mm Fence Paling H3 Treated Pine Wet 1.2m. This is on the condition that the gaps are not too wide and there is enough space for the paling to be nailed to both sides of the existing paling. It's not necessary to cover the entire fence, I recommend cutting the paling in half and cover the bottom gap up to 600mm only. This would be more then enough to cover the weeds coming through.
Another option is to use weedmat and just staple it to the bottom of the fence at the suggested height of 600mm. This will prevent sunlight from reaching the weeds coming through and they will instead concentrate their growth to where they have access to full sunlight.
