How to install shade cloth from aluminium pergola to Colorbond fence?

Needing to install shade for a narrow area along my aluminium pergola and colour bond fence, which allows so much sunshine & heat through the gap makes half width of pergola unusable. I know many others request same but other than a WA company have not found anyone on east coast or whether Bunnings stock similar products to use. If anyone has successfully installed similar would appreciate advice and photos.

Re: how to install shade clth from aluminium pergola to colourbond fence

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @KazSB. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about installing shadecloth.

It’s important to keep in mind that neither your aluminium pergola nor your Colorbond fence are designed to have shade cloth or shade sails attached directly to them. Shade cloth can act like a sail in strong winds, creating significant pressure on the structures, which may not be built to handle those loads. If the area you’re covering is small, it might be manageable, but for anything larger, you’ll need to take care not to compromise the integrity of the pergola or fence.

I am not aware of any off-the-shelf systems specifically designed for this setup, so a custom solution would be required. One option is to use a V-Lock shade cloth system, which can be attached to the pergola and then to a timber batten fixed to the fence. This allows you to securely clip in the shade cloth and create a neat extension between the two structures. If you’d prefer to have someone install it for you, you could look for a local handyperson through platforms such as Hipages or Airtasker.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
