How to paint sleepers and fence?

Hi

doing outdoor projects and need to paint an old fence and new sleepers in monument (colourbond) colour.
would you recommend using an undercoat of some kind or just painting the out door paint directly onto the new and old timbers?

thanks in advance

Re: painting sleepers

Hello @tontonia

If you are painting over new sleepers, I suggest washing the surface with Cabot's 2L New Timber Prep - 2L followed by Cabot's 1L Deck Clean. This will prepare the surface of the sleeper for painting. Please make sure that the surface is totally dry before you start painting, I suggest using Zinsser 1L White Bulls Eye Primer Undercoat Sealer And Stain Blocker to prime the surface before painting it with your topcoat.

In regards to your fence, I suggest using Intergrain 1L UltraPrep Timber Cleaner (Garden Safe) in combination with a scrub broom.  Use Intergrain UltraPrep Timber Cleaner to remove surface contaminants prior to coating. The cleaner will help to restore and prepare weathered, grey, rust or tannin stained, mould or mildew affected timber to a clean appearance ready for coating. I highly recommend using a pressure washer to rinse both the fence and sleepers.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.
