How to paint window sealant?

outdoor sash window has been sealed with silicon. The frames is  painted white but I mistakenly used black silicon .

question is should I now best paint the frames black ( which I could) or can I paint over the black silicon in white? As white would be preferred . Thx

Re: window sealant

Hi @bg3,

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

Unfortunately, painting silicone is not recommended as paint won't adhere properly and tends to bead, flake, or peel off.

Painting the frames doesn't seem like the best option, considering you'd like to keep them white.

Your best option, which would likely be the cheapest and easiest to do is to use a utility knife to cut out the black silicone and replace it with white silicone or White No More Gaps Exterior Gap Filler, which is an exterior-grade caulk that can be painted. Just remember to wear gloves and long protective clothing while using a knife to limit the risk of lacerations.

Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Jacob
