Hi there,
I am doing a small repair to one of our decking foundation poles. It is an older steel pole and has some corrosion around the base of the pole (which is in an old concrete pad). Having scrapped off the flaky rust I've been advised by our builder that the pole is still structurally sound and the best course of action is to treat the rust with a rust-stop product, paint with a metal guard paint and pour a new concrete pad up above the point of corrosion on the pole.
Just wondering what products you would recommend for the rust stop and metal paint given this is outside, near salt-water and cops a fair bit of rain, so need something fairly heavy duty.
I have a tub of this left from another job, would it be a suitable rust treatment and primer? https://www.bunnings.com.au/dulux-1l-metalshield-rust-defence-primer_p0439558
Cheers, Jack.
Hi @JackP,
Yes, the Dulux 1L Metalshield Rust Defence Primer would do the job, then you could paint over it with an epoxy paint. You can select the colour you need, and I'd recommend the brushed version to build up a decent coat, rather than the spray pack version.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
