Hi, I need to replace my letter box I got home from work today and found the front of my letter box had been ripped off the measurements are roughly W 260mm x H 165mm x  L 355mm just need some advice if there is a product that can fit in the hole.

Okay @Melway7

I've got the steel organised.

A question - I was thinking of making the steel front the full 288mm wide - dimension D.

I though if gluing failed you may be able to drill and connect to the outer concrete(?) block.

Your thoughts?

Re: replacing my bricked in letter box

Yes pls. It will serve as an other anchor point and also cover the damage on the uprights.
Can’t wait to see your handy work.

thanks

Re: replacing my bricked in letter box

G'day @Melway7

I've been playing with metal pieces and am a little concerned with the dimensions.

My idea above was two pieces of square tube (25mm X 25 mm) that would fit into those rebates with a good amount of liquid nails.

But with these in place - the letter opening is now only 174 mm wide. Presently a 35 mm height.

Is this gonna be too small?

Should we ditch my idea - and just go with a steel front and widen the letter opening?

That way it would at least equal 'B' = 191 mm.

Or the full hog - 'C' = 227 mm.

But you would need to screw the plate on to the extreme sides which are around 30 mm each.

I hope this makes sense.

The steel front is 290 mm wide - just a little over your 288 mm (D).

Height is 160 mm which should fit 'A' - 162 mm.

Thoughts?

Re: replacing my bricked in letter box

Morning @rhys1

At this stage I'm giving up on the 174 mm opening. Looking back at Rhys' mailbox - it's a whopping 260 mm.

I'll dispense with the square tube idea and that will give you at least a 191 mm opening.

If I go further back (227 mm) the posted letter may strike the rebated corner and drop to the ground? I dunno.

Cheers. 👍
