Wooden steps to a deck area have fallen apart. How to fix this? Is it possible to buy and install ready made steps? Thank you! New to DIY and don't know where to start......
Hello @AlisonM
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your outside steps.
I propose having a quick look at the Wilmaplex Ezistep Stringers in combination with the 240 x 45mm 0.9m Stair Tread H3 Treated Pine Domestic Use - 900mm. These stringer kits are easy to assemble and come in a variety of sizes that are pre-cut to fit into fixed heights. I've placed a copy of the stringer table below to give you an idea of how to choose the right stringer set for your area. Here is a link to the Ezistep brochure.
Please note that these stringers and steps will need to be ordered at either the trade desk or special orders desk just in case they are not stocked in your store. The general process of anchoring the steps to the raised deck can involve the use of nuts and bolts, Dynabolts or chemical anchor sets. Plus, heavy duty angle brackets or timber may be used in its installation.
The installation of balustrades on steps involves structural safety and adherence to building codes, which can be complex. If you've not done any carpentry or complex structural builds, I suggest engaging the services of a builder to install the steps and balustrade for your deck. A professional can ensure it meets safety standards and it follows all the local rules and regulations when installing steps and balustrades.
