Re: cedar shutters

Hello @Appianroma

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your cedar shutters.

Restoring your cedar shutters is like restoring timber furniture. The sealer must first be sanded off to reveal the timber underneath. I recommend using a detail sander to reduce the sanding time on your project. I suggest using a clean rag and a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush head attachment to clean the surface of the shutters of sanding dust.

Once the surface is totally clean you can then begin sealing the shutters with your choice of gloss sealers. I propose looking at the Bondall 1L Gloss Monocel Gold Marine Clear Timber Varnish as a possible candidate to seal your cedar shutters. I recommend visiting your local store and looking at the clear sealer sample board in the paint department. This will give you a much better idea of what the clear sealers look like when applied to timber.

Here is a handy step-by-step guide: How To Restore Furniture (the techniques used are applicable to your project)
