How to restore and paint a corrugated iron roof?

Hi,
I am planning to paint my corrugated iron roof. It has some patches of rust. The plan is to wash and sandpaper the rust followed by an application of https://www.bunnings.com.au/dulux-1l-metalshield-rust-defence-primer_p0439558.

Followed by sprayed monument grey Low sheen: https://www.bunnings.com.au/wattyl-solagard-15l-pre-tinted-monument-low-sheen-exterior-paint_p063026...

Are these products suitable and is there any other products you would recommend?

Re: How to restore and paint a corrugated iron roof?

Hi @Mzav,

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

It really depends on the severity of the rust on your roof. If you had some photos you could upload, that would certainly help us to offer our best advice.

Let me know if you need help uploading photos. I am happy to help if required.

Unfortunately, due to the harsh conditions roofs experience, I'm not aware of any products that would be suitable.

With sufficient preparation, like the sanding and rust primer you've mentioned, you could physically use the products you have mentioned, but due to the harsh weather that roofs can experience, I could not guarantee they would last.

Wattyl and Dulux both recommend reaching out to their technical teams for any situations outside of the norm. It is likely worth giving them a call for their guidance.

Dulux can be contacted on 13 25 25 in Australia and 0800 800 424 in New Zealand. Wattyl can be contacted on 132 101 in Australia and 0800 825 7727 in New Zealand

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Jacob
