How to seal and waterproof a painted timber sign?

Hi everyone.

I'm after suggestions for a sealer/waterproofer for an outdoor timber sign.  It is painted with acrylic and ideally I'd like a non gloss sealer to protect it.  I'm thinking a gloss one will make it too hard to read.

I have asked Cabots and Crommelin, they both said they have nothing.

TIA

Hello @mellie1

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your painted timber sign.

The closest clear sealer that I've found that is not gloss is the Boyle 250ml Satin Clear Leni Varnish. It is used to protect the paintings from dust, UV rays and yellowing. I propose testing it on a sample piece of timber before you commit to covering your timber sign in order to get an idea of its finish. Please note that I can't guarantee that it is compatible with the paint you've used on your sign.

Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1, @Nailbag and @Noyade for their recommendations.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.
