How to update backyard fencing and pool area?

Hi All,

Would love some suggestions on what we can do to update the current fence area and generally modernise the area?

Many thanks in advance.

Re: Pool reno

Hello @Firsttimerhelp5

Thank you for sharing that extra picture of your deck. The standard For Hire: Orbital Floor Sander - 4hr will still work on this surface however, it will be necessary to take an extra step by using a detail sander. This will add an extra bit of effort to the sanding job, but if done properly will give your deck a superb finish. I propose doing this as a three-person job, one to use the orbital floor sander the other two to use detail sanders to do the grooves.

There are other tools you can use from such as sanding disc pads, circular foam sanding pads and manually formed hand holds to sand in-between the grooves. The issue with the disc pads is that any mistake made in its application can damage the surface of the decking panel leaving large scars and uneven surfaces.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric

Re: How to update backyard fencing and pool area?

Hi @Firsttimerhelp5 ,

I’ve been wondering what you ended up doing. Have you lived there long? Might be worth just living with it for a full year, tinkering with some cheaper changes to see how it feels.

It sounds like you want a whole other look entirely, which many of us do when we inherit a garden. As a landscape designer and constructor I saw this many times. Just be cautious about making change for the sake of just making change. The screening on the Colorbond may have been put there to intercept the radiant heat from the Colorbond, which, given all the hard surfaces might be quite significant. From a landscaping point of view the screening would be considered much more aesthetic than metal fencing, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder! Removing it would reduce your property value though. It’s a much easier sell than Colorbond around a pool.

I stick by my previous suggestions of painting the pergola white, adding a few large potted plants and introducing some lightness In upholstery of outdoor furniture. It would be a cheap ish option and create an entirely different, clean and crisp feel to the area. I wish I could do an AI generated image for you as these things are so much easier to grasp that way.

Do you intend adding potted plants, outdoor furniture, etc once you’ve resolved the deck and fence? If you do, then maybe you could start at that point and see if those changes are enough? You won’t have lost anything as you were going to do that anyway, and it may save you money and effort. Just a thought.

Good luck with it. I hope you’ll post images once it’s all done.
