How to replace side gate?

Hi community, I am seeking advice on this outdoor side gate of mine. Would it be

possible to DIY change this gate to a more solid one to reduce visibility from the streets?

Re: Is it possible to replace this door?

Hello @Thoo

If you are after some quick privacy, I suggest covering the gate with Tunnelcore 1200 x 900 x 5mm Black Double Wall PP Flute Board. It can be cut down to size and clipped on with cable ties. My best advice is not to overtighten the cable ties to prevent ripping the flute board. If you wish to use timber, I suggest 1220 x 810mm 4mm Plywood Hardwood Marine AA Grade. These can be screwed on directly to the steel frame of your gate. My best advice is to make sure that the timber panel is fully painted to help protect the timber finish.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: How to replace side gate?

Hi @Thoo,

At 1465mm in width the gate needs to be relatively light-weight and likely is the reason they've used an open design. Unfortunately, this isn't the best for privacy. If the options Eric has provided don't work for you and you'd prefer to replace the gate with one that offers more privacy, you might need to consider installing another post and a gate that's not so wide. The SpecRite 1833 x 900mm Pre-Oiled Merbau Horizontal Slat Gate would be a nice choice, but as it's 900mm wide, additional support would be required.

If you wish to keep the width, we offer adjustable gate kits where you construct the frame and then attach boards to it, such as decking.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
