Re: New deck using Ekodeck composite boards with the Quickfix hidden fastening system.

Looks good,

I install an Ekodeck about six years ago prior to the Quickfix hidden system.

I used the Cameo hidden screw system at the time, the Ekodeck kept breaking at the screw points and lifting away from the frame.

Since then I have lifted the deck and cut a rebate into the boards using a router (burns through the bits very quickly) and relaid with the Quickfix hidden system.

Upon reflection I wish I had laid a wooden deck as the Ekodeck gets very hot in the summer and mine never looks that clean as when new.

Anyway you learn by your experiences

Hi GB,

I'm just starting to look at decking and I note they recommend adequate ventilation to prevent heat build-up. I wonder if that may have been the cause of yours breaking away from the fasteners and lifting (due to expansion when hot). I won't be able to install mine with any ventiilation at all (apart from the gaps), but we've just installed a LouvreTec roof, so that'll reduce the insolation. Contemplating decking over or instead of pavers, to raise level (~15cm) to match interior floor.Contemplating decking over or instead of pavers, to raise level (~15cm) to match interior floor.
