How to fix small crack on external brick wall?

Dear brain trusts,

May i ask your opinion on the external wall issue? This building is built at around 1980 and I recently noticed (since just purchase this property) a small crack on the external brick wall (<1mm) width and just wonder if it is necessary to find builders for check or just apply gap filler then observe or just leave as it is ?

Your opinions are much appreciated.

Re: Small crack on external brick wall

Hello @patchiu

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your brick wall.

I suggest using Selleys 440g No More Gaps Bricks and Mortar Gap Filler - Terracotta to repair the 1mm gap for the meantime. Should the gap increase in size from 2mm to 5mm in a short amount of time, I recommend having a builder inspect the area for ground movement and possible water damage to the brick wall.

Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1 and @Nailbag for their recommendations.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: Small crack on external brick wall

Hi @patchiu

as with @EricL I would apply a silicone sealant after measuring the width of the cracks. I wouldn't let them go more than 2mm more before having a domestic building engineer inspect to find the cause.

Good Afternoon @patchiu

@EricL 's suggestion of 2-5mm before engaging an engineer is a good guage.  As @Nailbag says if it goes over the 2mm mark thats the time I would be thinking of sourcing one.
