How to add small extension to my son's cubby?

Hi, I will be purchasing the Kidzshack Delightful Shack Kids Wooden Large Cubby House from Bunnings in a few weeks to build it for my 2.5 year old for Christmas. I initially wanted the mud kitchen add-on, but we don't have the space. I still want a little undercover area where he can park his little plastic motorbike he rides around on. The space we have is approximately 340cm W and 350cm L. The cubby and slide extension are apparently 266cm W, leaving me approximately 74cm to work with. Is that enough space to build a little undercover area, or should I give up on the idea?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Charni. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about building a storage area.

If 74cm is enough space for your child to park their motorbike, then there’s no reason you couldn’t create a small undercover area there. A 74cm overhang is quite manageable. Is there a particular concern you have about that size being too small or causing any issues? As long as the motorbike fits comfortably and the structure remains stable and weather-protected, it sounds like a perfectly workable idea.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Want to add a small extension to my son's cubby

Hi Mitchell,

Thank you for your quick response! The motorbike will fit easily, it's widest part is around 34cm, so plenty of room for it. It's reassuring to know it's not too small a space.

Are there any plan or blueprints or examples of other extensions that anybody can share? I've never done anything like this before and can use all the help I can get

Re: Want to add a small extension to my son's cubby

There aren’t really any specific plans or blueprints I can point you to for this kind of cubby extension @Charni, as it’s more of a simple custom build based on your space. However, I can picture a small lean-to style addition about 74cm wide, with a height of roughly 1.5m on the low side and 1.7m on the high side. That would give you a nice slope for rainwater runoff. For the roof, you could use corrugated polycarbonate sheeting, and add some timber trim along the edges to tidy up the look. You can adjust the overall height depending on where it connects to the cubby. Construction would be fairly straightforward using treated pine framing and outdoor screws, though having a second pair of hands would make assembly easier.

I've created a rendering below to assist.

That's perfect and very helpful. Thank you! I'll send pictures when it's done in December ^_^
