I have cleaned and resealed the slate. Needing advice on how to fix/regrout the slate wall exterior tiles. Thanks
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @KB2. It's fanstastic to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about grouting slate tiles.
Regrouting a slate wall is much the same as grouting any other tile, but there are a few extra points to keep in mind because slate is more delicate and prone to staining. First, try to keep the grout off the face of the slate tiles as much as possible. Even with a sealer, slate can absorb colour and mark easily, so it’s worth being careful and patient.
Start by mixing a reasonably stiff batch of mortar. You want it firm enough to hold its shape but still workable so it can be pressed into the joints. Before you begin filling, lightly mist the joints with water. This helps prevent the existing substrate from drawing moisture out of your new grout too quickly, which can cause it to dry unevenly or shrink.
Use a tuck pointing trowel or similar tool to press the grout carefully into the gaps. Work in small sections, applying the grout and packing it into each joint. Take your time to make sure all the gaps are fully filled. Once it’s set slightly, you can gently wipe away any excess from the surface of the tiles with a damp sponge, again being careful not to drag grout over the slate faces.
After it cures, it’s a good idea to reseal the slate and even the grout to protect it from water and staining going forward. Patience and careful handling are key here; done properly, it will help your slate wall look neat and last much longer.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for your help. If I take in some the existing mortar can it be colour matched?
