Hi, I have bought a new house which is 1970's with gyprock walls. I have a very heavy framed picture to hang, and my stud finder indicates there are electrics all the way along the wall. Could this be the aircon? It's just an internal wall between the bedroom and the loungeroom. I successfully hung another heavy picture on another wall by finding and drilling into the stud, but this one shows electric on the whole wall. Thoughts? I'm a complete novice, so please be kind.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Celia1. It's marvellous to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about hanging a picture.
It's great to know that you've already been successful in hanging one picture, as we now know you've got a good grasp of how to do so.
Finding wiring in a wall is not unusual, though it is normally limited to certain areas. When you mention it's all the way along the wall, can you find any spots on the wall that don't have wiring? If the unit is indicating wiring truly everywhere, I would say that's a false result. Wiring couldn't possibly be over the entire wall.
You might want to run through the unit's recalibration again. Sometimes, if you calibrate over the top of a stud or over wiring, it can give false results wherever you then try to use it.
Here's a helpful guide: How to hang just about anything.
