How do CSR Gold batts compare with blow-in Cellulose insulation?

My roof has no insulation. It’s all pretty expensive but quality & life expectancy (of the insulation!) is very important. I want at least an R4 rating.

Re: How do CSR Gold batts compare with Blow in Cellulose insulation?

Hello @West-Newman

Thanks for sharing your question about comparing CSR Gold batts with Blow in Cellulose insulation. Both these insulation materials have their advantages and disadvantages.

Without getting into too much detail CSR Gold batts are one of the few ceiling batts that reach a rating of R7. It has a warranty of 70 years both for wall and ceiling batts. It's easy to install and is non-combustible. They don't contain any harmful amounts of formaldehyde or other organic chemicals, and no Ozone depleting Products (ODPs) are used in their manufacture. However, the only drawback to this type of insulation is that it leaves gaps in complicated space fittings and is often pushed up due to light and electrical fittings.

Blow in Cellulose insulation offers a high insulation rating for less material. Due to its material nature, it can get into tight spaces and complicated shapes. It can go around light fittings and conduits. However, it requires specialist equipment to install and produces a lot of dust when being pumped into your home. It is chemically treated and will eventually settle. This settling will then reduce its R rating and thereby losing its thermal efficiency.

Let me call on our experienced members @Adam_W and @ProjectPete for their recommendations.

Please keep us updated with your progress, we look forward to seeing your ceiling insulated.
