How to fix scratched windows?

Someone has cleaned my windows with an abrasive and the glass is scratched.  Does anyone have any recommendations as to a product I can use to buff the scratched off the glass

Re: scratched windows

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @latescratching2. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about removing scratches from glass.

That really depends on how deep the scratches are in the glass. If they’re very fine and have just made the surface look a little opaque, you might be able to use something like the Protector Aluminium EnduroShield Glass Polish Kit, which is designed for restoring clarity. Another option some people try is steel wool. Very fine grades like 0000 (four zero) are commonly used to clean glass without damaging it, though if you’re attempting to cut into scratches, you may need to start with a slightly coarser grade, such as 000. From there, you’d polish your way back up to a finer grade until the finish is clear again.

For deeper scratches, you might find that a professional glass polishing service is the better route, as they have specialist compounds and machinery to remove marks that can’t be buffed out by hand. The principle is the same as polishing anything else: use a material just slightly more abrasive than the scratch to level the surface, then refine with progressively finer abrasives until it’s transparent again.

Just a word of caution, working with glass carries risks, as it can shatter unexpectedly. Always wear safety glasses, cut-resistant gloves, a long-sleeve shirt, trousers, and enclosed footwear when attempting any polishing or abrasive work. If in doubt, getting a professional in is the safest and most reliable option.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
