Patch or sand chipped paint on skirting?

Hi all, there’s a few spots on doors and skirting where the paint has come away. Is it best to sand and repaint? I don’t really want to sand the entire length of skirting! Or could I use something like fill and go to make sure the repaint isn’t visible?

Re: Patch or sand?

Hi @corky55,

Since there isn't a significant amount of paint over that area, I would think that lightly sanding the immediate area and damage with 240-grit sandpaper would smooth it out enough to then prime and paint. By sanding and then adding a primer and two coats of paint, this damage should be unnoticeable.

The reason for not suggesting filling the area is there's not enough depth of damage for the filler to be applied into. The filler itself will become proud of the painted surface, and the inverse issue will be created.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
