How to hang items on brick and plasterboard walls?

I’ve bought several items to mount on walls (shelves, hooks, wall accessories, etc.), and they require different screw sizes. Is there a general type of screw that would work for most of these items, so I don’t need to buy many different kinds?

I also have a mix of brick walls and gyprock / plasterboard walls. Is there a universal wall plug that works well in both materials?

Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thank you.

I propose looking at the Ramset 8 x 50mm Universal Anchor - 20 Pack and the Ramset 6 x 38mm Universal Anchor. My best advice is to make sure that the hole you drill is not too big so that the plastic inserts will have an adequate surface to grip on. If the pilot hole is too big the plastic plug will not anchor properly. 

Please remember to wear personal protection such as gloves, goggles and a mask when working on your project.
