What primer to use after skim-coating painted walls?

I have old painted walls that have orange peel texture. After skim coating - can I use any primer before painting? E.g Dulux water based 1 Step Primer?

Re: Skim Coating painted walls - Primer

Hi @Nanne,

For large areas that are skim coated with plaster, it's best to use an oil-based seal binder designed for porous surfaces like Dulux 1L PRECISION White Sealer Binder. The Dulux 1 Step primer you have mentioned is more suitable for spot repairs of plaster and not large surface areas.

Before you skim coat, remember to dull the surface with sandpaper and remove any sheen from the paint. This provides the skimcoat with a surface to which it can adhere.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you MichellMc - after skim coating - what type of sandpaper I should use? Plaster board sanding mesh or normal sandpaper ?

Re: Skim Coating painted walls - Primer

To smooth and sand back your skim coat, you'd use the mesh type @Nanne. Normal sandpaper tends to clog up very quickly.
