window strips external

I like to extend my external timber window frames to match the "aftermarket" fitted cladding edges. Can i use cypress timber post ie 100x100 and cut it to size or will that wood just split and warp even after it has been painted? It situation is north and west side of the house and cops the full sun. Thanks Andreas
