Help needed with this privacy lock

My child ‘accidentally’ pushed the lock button from inside and closed the bathroom door when came out and now i am unable to open the lock. Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

 Cheers!

Re: Help needed with this privacy lock

Hello @bmghauri

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about your privacy lock.

If you have a standard door frame where the door trim is attached separately, I can only suggest using a sharp timber chisel and lifting it off the frame. This will give you access to the latch and you can use a cake icing spatula or similar to slide and shimmy down the gap and force the latch to slot in which will allow you to open the door. In its current configuration there are no emergency release options available.

Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1 and @Noyade for their recommendations.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Re: Help needed with this privacy lock

Good Evening @bmghauri

Been there, done that (well had it done to me before lol)

There may be a pin hole on the underside of the handle the size of a small skewer. Poke a skewer into it and it may unlock the handle.

Any other suggestions will destroy the lock itself 😕 and the first one I have is a hard sharp twist of the handle whcih will wreck the locking mechanisim but hopefully turn the handle and blade into the door.

It looks like the two fixing screws have had a grinder used on them before? They are held in place via the whole handle and screwed from the otherside so I wouldnt try a repeat of that

If there is no obvious pin hole could you take a photo of the underside of the handle please? and also if you have other same styled locks in your house could you take a photo of the other side on one of them?

Dave
