Hello, I'm looking to build a bench top to go over my front loader washing machine. What would be the best cost-effective wood to choose, and can I paint it a colour and then seal it/waterproof it after? It's just a short-term solution while renovations are being planned for long term.
Hello @Sarah251
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about adding a benchtop to your laundry.
I suggest having a quick look at this discussion - How to build a laundry table over your washing machine. There is an explanation of how you can use a standard Specrite 2200 x 600 x 26mm Timber Multi Use Pine Panel into a bench top for your washing machine. My best advice is to measure the length that you'll need for your bench top. Keep in mind that it might be necessary to use two panels.
To protect the bench top from moisture and water splashes, I suggest painting it with Cabot's 1L Satin Clear Benchtop Timber Finish.
