My laundry is located in the hallway, and the current ceiling light is blocked by a cupboard I have in there. I’m wondering if Bunnings might have a type of light that can be plugged into the power point next to the washing machine or from the ceiling light plug and somehow hung or mounted to give me better lighting—especially when I’m loading clothes into the machine.
Hi @kelbie,
You could buy one of these.
OPTION 1:
DETA White B22 Suspension Kit

And use a long Eye Screw.

To hang it off the cabinet.
OPTION 2:
Purchase Clip Lamp.

And use extension lead.
Cheers
It’s great to see that @AlanM52 has already provided some helpful advice, @kelbie.
A few options you might like to consider:
You could have an electrician relocate the existing ceiling light so that it sits directly above your washing machine rather than behind the cupboard. That would give you the most even, practical lighting and resolve the issue properly.
Alternatively, you might look at simply increasing the brightness of your current setup. It looks like your existing globe is fairly low wattage and a warm white, which can make the space feel dim. Upgrading it to a higher-wattage LED or brighter fluorescent will boost the overall ambient light.
To complement that, consider adding an under-cabinet light directly above the washing machine. Something like the Brilliant 18W 60cm White DIY Scintil LED CCT Batten Light could be ideal. It can plug into a nearby power point, provides excellent task lighting, and can easily be mounted to the underside of your cabinet or shelf.
Pairing these two changes, a brighter ceiling light and a focused task light, should make your laundry area far more functional without the need for major work.
