How to refurbish old cast iron bath?

I would like advice on how to refurbish an old cast iron bath inside and outside. What products to use both internally and externally. Instructions on how to complete this project too please. Inside is rusty near plug see pics attached as well as paint cracking all over the inside. Outside underneath is very rusty.

Re: how to refurbish old cast iron bath

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @helenmills. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about restoring a bathtub.

Please be advised that there is a high chance this paint contains lead, so take all precautions to avoid personal and your homes exposure to it. This means wet sanding to eliminate dust and adhering to strict PPE, including a face mask, gloves, eye protection and disposable overalls.

Your first step will be removing all the paint from the bath, which will require initially trying to chip as much of the paint off as possible with a scraper. Any residual paint can be wet sanded away. Once the paint and any rust are removed, treating any rusted areas with a rust converter would likely be best. Now that you have a smooth and rust-free tub, you can paint it with White Knight 500ml White Tub And Basin Paint.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
