Re: How to fix broken shower door hinge?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Sakar. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about replacing a shower door hinge.

Shower door hinges, especially on two-fold doors, can be tricky because the glass panels are under tension and can shatter easily. If you’re not confident handling this, I would strongly recommend engaging a professional to do the hinge replacement safely.

If you do decide to attempt it yourself, you’ll need to be very careful and wear appropriate PPE: safety glasses, cut‑resistant gloves, long sleeves and trousers, and enclosed footwear. The basic process is to remove the broken hinge first. Most of these hinges are attached with pop rivets, so you’ll need to drill out the rivets with the correct size drill bit, then the hinge can be removed from the glass panel. Once removed, you can take the hinge to your local Bunnings store to match it and get an appropriate replacement. The new hinge is then pop-riveted back into place.

The key point is to take extreme care around the glass, because any mishandling could cause it to shatter. If there’s any hesitation at all, having a professional handle it is the safest route.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
