What benchtop should I use DIY or have cut to measurements, that cutting will not edging

Which sort of benchtop can be cut to custom sizes to suit different front edging, wide one end, slim the over as attached?

I was thinking I can purchase a ready-made cabinet and cut the bench to fit.Vanity dimensions.pngVanity front.jpgVanity side length.jpg

Hi @JodieMarwick,

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

I've made some enquiries with our benchtop supplier, Kaboodle about whether this kind of irregularly shaped benchtop can be made to order. I can't recall seeing any benchtops come in with an irregular shape like yours, so I'm not sure if they can be ordered or not, but they should be in touch shortly to confirm whether it is possible or not.

If you can cut the shape yourself, they may be able to provide you with the edge band so that the cut edge can be finished in the same way as the rest of the benchtop. Again, I will have to wait to confirm this.

As the main issue with having a cut like this on your benchtop is the edge band, if you were to use a timber benchtop, like this Kaboodle 2400 x 600 x 36mm Hevea Timber Benchtop or Kaboodle 2400 x 600 x 35mm Bamboo Benchtop, then you'd have no issue with an edge band. Again, with this, you'd likely have to cut the benchtop yourself.

Please bear with me while I wait for Kaboodle to get back in touch.

In the meantime, you might like to check out How To Install And Seal A Timber Benchtop and How To Install a Bamboo Benchtop for some guidance on the installation process.

Hi @JodieMarwick,

We’ve heard back from Kaboodle, and unfortunately, they don’t offer cutting for irregular shapes, only straight cuts across the sheet. They do, however, have suitable edgings that can be ordered and applied to any cuts. To achieve your desired shape, you would need to have the cuts made by a professional, and then the edging can be applied to finish it neatly.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell

Hi @JodieMarwick,

Welcome to Bunnings Workshop, it's great to have you here!

I'm going to try and think outside the box on this renovation, I suspect that you want to modernise your bathroom?

If you used moisture-proof plywood and there are coatings/membranes that can be applied to the plywood, I think this could work.

It would entail you having tools like a circular saw and all the usual hand tools.

Please do not use MDF board for this, it will suck up any moisture and expand like a sponge.

This is certainly do-able and if you had the know-how to use a router, you wouldn't need to have harsh, angular lines and instead had nice sweeping curves where things join together

What are your thoughts on this?

I would be more than willing to give you any advice you need to help out with a project like this, bathroom reno's are never easy because of the moisture involved, but I have done a couple of them myself and if I can help out at all, that would be great.

Cheers,

Mike T.
