Bamboo fence panel for extra privacy

This bamboo panelling with a rose mahogany stain brings a touch of Bali to this backyard and enlivens the fence.

The project

I installed this bamboo panelling for extra privacy. I stained with a rose mahogany stain and added a chain link feature.

I drilled a pilot hole through the bamboo first to avoid it splitting, and then placed a 75mm galvanised screw through that hole and continued fixing it to the top and bottom rail of the fence. It's quite easy. I found it helpful to run a string line pulled tight to make sure it was level.

Great fencing alternative @Shannon !

The rose stain looks great with your red brick home as well. Would love to see what it looks like at night with your fairy light fencing on!

Hi @denikas,

Let me mention @Shannon so he is alerted to your question.

You might like to check out our range of bamboo panels and poles which look very similar to what is used in this project. Other Workshop members have created bamboo screening at their place using Lattice Makers 1800 x 900mm Black Bamboo Half Raft Screen Panel and shared their results in @Shannon's discussion Bamboo fence panel for extra privacy. One of our resident D.I.Y. experts @MitchellMc shares how to attach screening to a fence in this discussion too.

Please let us know if we can help further with your project.

I think this type of bamboo fence for privacy from the neighbours would be what I want. My back garden is far too open, giving me no privacy at all. The white pebbles would make a good base + also smooth out a broken front path. This has been the most useful article I've seen so far. (missedout.)

Glad to see you have been inspired by @Shannon's popular project @missedout.

Please let us know if you need a hand replicating his handiwork.

Kind of a Big Deal

So damn good @Shannon  I absolutely love it ! That stain just makes the bamboo poles stand out more. Would love to see a before and after photo of the fence. It’s amazing what you can turn a boring fence into 😃

Is anyone willing to come to Tara to make a small patio out of bamboo for the sides & "roof", with white pebbles on the floor level? It only needs to be big enough for a small table & 2 chairs. I can't do this myself due to an injury, & lack of knowledge. Naturally a fair amount of pay would be involved. missedout. (If you can do a little internal painting as well, that would help, thanks.)

Hi @missedout,

Given that it would be unlikely that one of our members lived near your location and was able to complete this work, I'd encourage you to consider enlisting someone to complete your project through services like Airtasker and Hipages.

If you cannot organise someone and would like to complete this project yourself, please feel free to reach out, and our helpful members can assist with guiding you through the project.
