This verandah was transformed in one weekend simply by turning the posts into a Hamptons-style feature.

The project

We turned our skinny verandah posts into something pretty amazing with a Hamptons look.

We have a 6–10mm gap so it allows for both ventilation and water run off. The new structure does not touch the ground and the original stirrup is still in place, which prevents termites climbing.

I'd love to know the materials you used for the cornering, and how to attach the boards to the wooden frame.

I'm looking to do battens and board on brickwork, so would be doing some similar things. Thanks

Hi @JamesG,

Let me tag @emmajames so they are alerted to your question.

After seeing an additional image in the original discussion Hamptons verandah posts, I've made an educated guesstimation of how they've constructed the framework. It also appears that the edge beading is two flat profiles similar to 42 x 11mm 5.4m H3 Treated Pine FJ DAR Primed LOSP, and they've attached a piece from both sides of the corner. Alternatively, you could use Porta 30mm 2.4m Moulding H3 Treated Pine External Corner Round Edge. The culmination of these assessments has been transformed into the rendering I've put together for you below.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell

Afternoon @emmajames

What an improvement from those straight posts  Love it and really shows a little outside the box thinking (and yes I see the pun  ) and Boom! Lifts that whole patio out of the doledrums!

Looks so fresh!
