Do ryobi pole trimmer and pruner work without pole?

Hi

I'm looking at the Ryobi pole hedge trimmer and pruner range. I was wondering what's the shortest length they can be set at (Ie can they be used without the poles) doing a mix of tree maintenance and work low to the ground where the pole might make things a bit awkward.

Thanks

Re: do ryobi pole trimmer and pruner work without pole

Hi @jess27,

Are you looking at the Ryobi EZ Reach range?

If so, then I have contacted some colleagues in store who have checked for me, and unfortunately no, they can't be used without the pole, meaning they wouldn't be suitable for low to the ground work without being a bit awkward.

You would have to look at grabbing a Ryobi 18V ONE+ 50cm Hedge Trimmer or Ryobi 18V ONE+ 6” Pruning Saw for lower to the ground work.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Re: do ryobi pole trimmer and pruner work without pole

Hi,

Just adding to this. I was looking to buy the Ryobi 18V ONE+ HP Brushless EZ Reach Pole Hedge Trimmer Attachment - R18XPHTA0 which cuts up to 22mm. However it looks like I am not able to buy it with the pole and I can't find anywhere where I can buy the pole separately.  I can only buy the smaller Ryobi 18V ONE+ 40cm EZ REACH Pole Hedge Trimmer R18PHT130 which does come with the EZ Reach pole.

It seems odd that I cannot buy the larger model with a pole or at least buy the pole separately or am I missing something here?

Thanks

Re: do ryobi pole trimmer and pruner work without pole

Hi @TimD,

I do apologise, but I've been informed by Ryobi that the Ryobi 18V ONE+ HP Brushless EZ Reach Pole Hedge Trimmer Attachment - R18XPHTA0 is an available additional head for customers who have an existing EZ Reach Pole from another kit, such as the Ryobi 18V ONE+ EZ REACH 8” 203mm Pole Pruner R18PPS130. Unfortunately, Ryobi does not sell the EZ Reach poles separately.

It's worth noting that the 22mm cutting capacity on the hedge trimmer is for leafy green material and small sticks, not solid branches, so if this is your reason for wanting the larger model, then it would be worth considering the pole pruner for the tougher stuff.

Alternatively, you could speak with the Special Orders team at your local store or reach out to our Spare Parts team online, who will be able to see if there is a way to order them separately or as a spare part.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: do ryobi pole trimmer and pruner work without pole

Hi Mitchell,

Thanks for checking. I have a large hedge and some of the "branches" are bordering on 16mm (the capacity of the smaller hedge trimmer) or maybe even a little thicker - so  I thought I would play it safe and go for the more heavy duty hedge trimmer (22mm). I don't really need a pruner.

Anyway, I may try special orders.

Thanks again,

Tim

Re: do ryobi pole trimmer and pruner work without pole

That's why I thought I'd check @TimD. The cutting capacity is the width between the teeth; it's not an indication of the branch sizes that it can cut. Even if you got the 22mm model, it will likely not cut through a 16mm branch. Hedge trimmers are designed to cut leafy green material and small branchlets. Anything larger than 8mm will likely bind up. It sounds like you might need a professional to come through with a petrol-powered machine to give it a good cut back into shape, and then you'll be right, keeping it in check with a battery-powered model.

Re: do ryobi pole trimmer and pruner work without pole

Hi Mitchell,

Hmm ok - this is what it says in the product description "...that takes care of branches with a diameter of up to 22mm..."  but ok - I didn't know that. TBH I thought 22mm seemed a bit thick for a hedge trimmer to cope with.

Ok thanks again and I love this Bunnings Workshop site. Its a great resource,

Regards

Tim
