On my last trip to Bunnings I picked up these two garden arches. I actually went in for a support for over veggie box but came out with these instead! Did I mention they were a bargain and heavily reduced in price! I love adding interest to the garden and am always looking for ideas and items to add to it.
I have put one at bottom of garden steps and purchased a potted climbing rose New Dawn to grow over it. The second one is going near veggie box and I will grow Wisteria and a Golden Raspberry over it.
Thank you so much for sharing that find. If you're a regular visitor at the store, you'll sometimes find yourself a bargain. That New Dawn climbing rose is perfect for that arch, not to mention that this is the perfect time to be setting it up. Once your rose fully matures, I'm sure it will look lovely on your arch. I can't wait to see your Wisteria and Golden Raspberry in full bloom on the second arch. Our members would love an update in a few months to see if your plants have made progress climbing the arch.
Please keep us updated with your progress. We look forward to seeing your plants high on the arch.
Growing plants over archers is a great thing in a garden. Just a word of caution. You have chosen some quite vagarous plants for these. Pruning will be absolutely key to the on-going success. If they don't get a good pruning every winter those plants will quickly take over and become problematic. So just take this into consideration and in winter - you'll improve your pruning skills.
With the roses - keep trimming off the dead-heads (spent blooms) to prolong the display and keep it tidy.
No worries Rob, I’ve got it covered . I’m a pretty seasoned gardener, with 4 acres of garden.
This is going to be so stunning when in full bloom! The archway itself it very pretty to start with too. I had to look up a Golden Raspberry and now I want one too!
Yes it is, would look pretty without anything lol Yes I’ve only just discovered too, also they aren’t so easy to spot for birds and my always hungry Golden Retriever lol
The second arch is now in, with Wisteria already in position. I think I will make a Blueberry hedge along border of pavers with a gap and stepping stones leading to Mulberry cubby house. #LisasGarden @lisaandlisa Instagram
Great work @LisasGarden! I can't wait to see these fill out. Your garden is looking marvellous as well.
