looking for some good ideas to 'uplift' this area
Good Evening @me3
Thats a nice little garden to work with, and welcome to the Bunnings Community pages
Def the perfect place to wander through looking up garden ideas, plus others.
My first thought was a bird bath, maybe even with a small fountain in it.
- Add some compost to the garden bed and turn it through. The existing soil looks a little used. Id wait a week before planting into it.
- I like the idea of plants that have scent when you brush through them or past them. So Rosemary is definently one Id have near the edge of the steps.
- Maybe some small scented shrubs mixed in with a crepe myrtle on the right (A little away from the birdbath but close enough for birds to jump to when danger is about) You can prune it once it gets to a size you want to keep it tidy.
- A few solar lights around the edge and maybe the underside of the birdbath to make it shine even at night.
- Cover the lot with thick mulch (100mm worth) to preven weeds, Im not a huge fan of weedmats but do like the ide of reusing ex coffee sacks (potato sacks) so maybe hit up some coffeee roasters in your area.

Hello @me3
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your garden.
It's great that you've received excellent ideas from @Dave-1. Just to add to the suggestions made, I recommend painting the cement garden edging to give it a fresh new finish. The same grey colour should contrast very well with the mulch. A large rock garden display is also an option if you are looking for a feature to put in. I propose adding lomandra, succulents and kangaroo paw or lavender to your garden. Solar lights as Dave said will add a nice evening glow to the area.
I also suggest having a look at this guide - How to give your garden a makeover by @Adam_W.
If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Let me also extend a very warm welcome to the community @me3.
The guide that Eric shared it's definitely a great place to start to help you to come up with a plan and decide what is important to you.
It might also help to get some inspiration from projects on this site from other community members. These collections would be a good place to start:
Hope that helps. We look forward to seeing how you can transform your garden.
