Re: How to get fruits from Banana tree

Hi @suni,

Bananas usually take around 9 to 18 months to produce fruit after they've started growing properly, depending on the variety and conditions. The good news is that once they’re mature, like yours, they can fruit quite quickly when they’re happy. Warm weather, regular watering, and a good feed with something like a Yates 500g Thrive Flower And Fruit Soluble Plant Food, which is high in potassium, can really help encourage them along.

Just keep in mind that bananas normally only fruit once from a stem (called a pseudostem), and after fruiting, that stem will die back while new shoots take over.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell

Is this the fruiting variety? I don't believe so. It is commonly referred as fancy banana tree only for decor and not fruiting.

Re: How to get fruits from Banana tree

Hello @suni

You are correct, it appears to be a Traveller's Palm. The main difference between a Traveller's Palm and a banana tree lies in their leaf arrangement and overall structure. A Traveller's Palm has a fan-like arrangement of large, paddle-like leaves, resembling a giant fan, while a banana tree has a cluster of large, banana-like leaves that grow out from a central stalk. Does it bear fruit? Yes, the Traveller's palm (Ravenala madagascariensis) does bear fruit. It produces brown, woody, three-lobed capsules that contain numerous seeds. These seeds are typically black and covered in a glossy, blue, hairy aril. It is not like the standard banana tree fruit.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
