Hi,
I have some leftover Dulux white paint (https://www.bunnings.com.au/dulux-4l-ultra-deep-low-sheen-weathershield-exterior-paint-4l_p0144796). I had long been thinking of painting the main trunk of my mature tree with white paint to protect it from too much summer sun (this is common practice everywhere but I personally have no experience).
The internet and AI have been telling me I should use 'latex' paint and not 'oil-based' paint. Fine. (But AI have not been able to tell me if this particular product is 'latex'). I read through all the words around the can and cannot find the word 'latex'.
1. Do you know if this particular Dulux paint is 'latex'? How does one tell?
(I'm not asking you to advise that this is good for my tree, only whether it is 'latex').
2. If you already know of a different product I can use to paint my tree white, let me know?
Thank you!
Hi @PhoenixClose1,
Dulux Weathershield is a water-based acrylic exterior paint, which means it falls into the category that most people refer to as latex paint. In Australia, the word “latex” is rarely printed on a can, but any water-based acrylic paint is functionally the same thing. When an Australian paint label says “water-based”, “acrylic”, or “low-VOC wall paint”, it is referring to what other countries would simply call latex paint.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
Thanks very much Mitchell. What a straightforward answer and clarifies what I had been trying to figure out from the internet and AI for a few days.
You're better than AI.
Here's an example headache from ChatGPT:
Q: Can I use Dulux Weathershield to paint my tree?
A: No you shouldn't
Q: What kind of paint should I use?
A: Latex
Q: Is Dulux Weathershield latex?
A: Yes.
Q: Can I use it to paint my tree?
A: Yes, because it's latex.
