Good evening everyone. I have a new build and looking to start landscaping and laying down grass. The space is overrun by weeds. I am wanting to know what I would need to do to remove the weeds permanently before I lay the grass. I would hate for these weeds to sprout through the new turf. Thank you !
Hello @gellybel
I suggest having a look at this discussion - How to revive lawn riddled with weeds? by @Elder85. When starting from scratch my team-mate suggested using either a non-selective herbicide or use black builder's plastic. The plastic method will take longer (several weeks), but it is an effective option if you're not a fan of herbicides. Once the weeds are dead you can turn the soil over with a metal pitchfork and remove the dead grass and weeds. This would also be a good opportunity to level the soil and remove any rocks or stones that are in the soil. Please remember to wear personal protection such as gloves goggles and a mask should you decide to use chemical sprays.
