What to plant for small native garden?

Hi, Looking for some advice to complete a small native garden project. I have completed the outer lying garden beds but have a central garden bed that I would like to create something ‘ sculptural’ with natives.

Re: ideas for a small native garden

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Lanny1. It's sensational to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about designing a garden.

You’ve created a great foundation for your garden with the neat layout and defined pathways. For the central garden bed, you could introduce a sculptural element using native plants with striking shapes and textures. Consider making a single statement plant the focal point, such as a grass tree (Xanthorrhoea johnsonii) or Banksia, which have bold, architectural forms. Surround this feature with soft, contrasting foliage like Lomandra, Dianella, or Kangaroo paw to add texture and movement. Low-growing groundcovers such as Grevillea or Myoporum parvifolium can fill the gaps and help tie everything together while keeping the focus on the sculptural centrepiece.

Re: What to plant for small native garden?

Good morning @Lanny1 @I love the idea of what you would like to create. Mitchell has given great advice. May I ask what State you’re in ? I’m in WA and we beautiful Native plants here.  I would suggest when you have time, go to your local Bunnings store and ask the Greenlife team what Natives grow well in the local area. 🌿🙂
