Hi guys trying to figure out what has possibly happened to my ficus hedge. It’s mature and been ok for the previous 5/6 years. It has recently started to turn leaves yellow and shedding more than normal like it’s sick. Any help what to do would be appreciated.
Hello @greenthumb30
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's marvellous to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about your Ficus Flash Hedge.
The abrupt shedding of leaves typically occurs due to excessive or under watering. Alternatively, factors such as excessive fertilizer, and sudden change of temperatures could also contribute to this phenomenon. If you observe yellowing edges and a reduction in lower leaves, it may also indicate poor nutrients in the soil. To address this, consider providing nutrients during the growing season.
I recommend using Scotts Osmocote 1kg All Purpose Controlled Release Fertiliser. It feeds plants continuously for up to 12 months and includes boosted trace elements to revive 'tired' plants. It also contains a professional wetting agent to improve watering efficiency.
