Choice of Wood for Panelling

Hello, I need assistance with the specific wood/moulding product I would need from Bunnings to create panelling like this on a kitchen island. Thank you 🙂

Re: Choice of Wood for Panelling

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @DIYgirlie. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about panelling.

That appears to be a combination of flat timber and a small decorative trim to create that classic panelled look.

From Bunnings, you’d be looking at something like a dressed all-round pine board, typically around 12mm thick and roughly 90mm wide, fixed vertically to the face of the island. These vertical boards form the main “panel” look. Across the top and bottom, the same flat timber is used horizontally to frame it.

To achieve a more refined, profiled edge, a fine decorative moulding is mitred at the ends and then fixed inside the flat boards. This gives the appearance of a routed or shaped panel, even though the base timber is just flat stock. It’s a common and cost-effective way to achieve this look without custom joinery. There are a few other pine mouldings which you could consider using, depending on the look you're going for.

Everything can be painted once installed, which helps hide joins and makes it look like one continuous moulded panel.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
