How to fix gouged laminate benchtop?

I would lIke to know what I need to permanently fix this gouged laminate layer and restore its appearance as much as possible under controllable costs.

As the photos show the spot is near a kitchen sink, the repair needs to be water, detergent, and temperature resistant.

Re: Fixing gouged laminate table

Hello @Hayaimi

I'm afraid I can only suggest a cosmetic fix as any patch placed over the laminate surface will not be able to last for a long period of time. Just as your particle board table was patched the same method applies here. The only difference is that you'll need to use a matching paint colour to cover the surface. Eventually the paint patch will fade, and you'll need to touch up the surface every now and then.

The only long-term repair I can suggest is to replace your existing laminate top with a new one.

If you have any other question we can help with, please let us know.

Do you sell the small sized laminate filler and paint at Bunnings?

Re: Fixing gouged laminate table

Hello @Hayaimi

If you still have some of the Spakfilla you used on your white laminate table, you can use it to fill in the gouged section of the current table. As for the paint you'll need to go to the store and look at colour card samples and see which one is close to the colour of your table. You can then ask the paint specialist to mix you a sample pot for your table.

Re: Fixing gouged laminate table

Would the Spakfilla you mentioned be water and detergent resistant enough for the repair?

Re: Fixing gouged laminate table

Hi @Hayaimi,

Once painted that would offer the filler some protection. However, if you are looking for a repair that will last any significant amount of time, I'd recommend you speak with a benchtop repair specialist to see if there is anything they could do. Any D.I.Y. repair isn't going to last and will still be quite noticeable.

You could consider filling the damage with Builder's Bog and then painting the whole benchtop with the Dulux Renovation range. Here's a helpful guide: How to paint a kitchen benchtop.

Re: Fixing gouged laminate table

Should I consider filling the chip with liquid laminate then?

Re: Fixing gouged laminate table

I'm sorry @Hayaimi, but I'm not familiar with a product named liquid laminate.
