Hi
I’ve used a wax on this wood before and it seems to come off. Especially around the sink area like in the photos. The wood has had some type of wax or something applied at some point by previous owner. I’m not sure what they used but it only seems to have come off in certain areas around the sink. Hopefully you can tell by the photos. It feels more like a resin I swear as they’ve used it through out the wood on bench top but sometimes I swear it’s sticky in places
Hi @tombot1974,
While wax is a suitable finish for timber in most situations, for a benchtop around a sink, I would be much more inclined to recommend using varnish.
This is because wax is a very light finish that will be much more susceptible to damage from abrasion and moisture, which will be common in this area.
My suggestion is to sand back the benchtop using 120 grit sandpaper, then apply 2-3 coats of Cabot's Satin Clear Benchtop Timber Finish.
Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
