why do i have grease coming out from around top
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @hoss1983. It's marvellous to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about tap grease.
From the image, I cannot clearly make out the grease you are referring to around the top of the tap. If you are able to let us know roughly how much is coming out, for example, whether it is just a light smear or something that keeps reappearing, that would help clarify things.
If this is a new installation, it is quite normal to see a small amount of grease around that joint. Taps are assembled with a silicone-based lubricating grease on moving parts, particularly where the spout rotates, to ensure smooth operation and to protect the seals. Any excess can sometimes be pushed out during installation or the first few uses.
You can simply wipe away any grease that is visible on the surface. If the spout swivels, turn it back and forth a few times to help work any excess grease out of the joint. There is usually only a small amount applied, so it should not continue to ooze out.
There is nothing to be concerned about unless the grease keeps appearing after repeated wiping, which would be unusual. In most cases, a clean wipe and normal use are all that is needed, and you can continue with the installation as normal.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
