Kitchen renovation tips wanted

Hi there, my husband and I have just bought our first flat (yippee!) and are looking to do some work to the kitchen. We are hoping that we'll be able to knock down the wall between the kitchen and living room, and then probably try place a countertop breakfast bar (with draws underneath) where the wall used to be. To do so, I'm thinking we'll have to remove the tall cabinet that currently sits next to the kitchen wall (or at least cut it down to the countertop height). We also want to replace the wooden cabinet doors with fresh white doors, and possibly remove the clear cabinet doors entirely to create some open shelving. Finally, we'd like to change the current tiling and add our own, probably simple white tiles with black grouting. As budget is a consideration, we think it'll probably be most cost effective to keep the current layout of the kitchen? There is also a floor to ceiling cupboard that sits next to the kitchen door onto the shared balcony (see floor plan attached). We were thinking to take the door of that cupboard and make it into an open pantry, with the washing machine cleverly fitted into the bottom half and perhaps covered with some sort of sheer white curtain. We are very new to any sort of DIY but would love to try do as much as possible (besides the obvious like knocking the wall down!). The flooring looks a bit worn so we may also try and sand it back and re-polish. Any help or guidance on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.  Floor Plan.jfifKitchen Wall.jfifKitchen.jfif

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Beebop. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for the question about renovating your kitchen.

Congratulations on buying your first flat, what a truly exciting time it must be! You must have a million ideas running through your head and we're here to help you achieve them.

It looks like you have the perfect candidate for a cosmetic refresh there. If your doors are 450 or 600mm in widths, you'd likely be able to replace them with white Kaboodle doors. Alternatively, you might like to paint the current doors white and replace the hardware. I like the idea of removing the wall if possible, and a breakfast bar sounds terrific. That's a neat idea for the washing machine as well.

I've spent some time putting a rendering together, considering what you've mentioned. By changing the doors, upgrading the benchtop, having some open cabinetry and creating the breakfast bar, you'll have a stunning kitchen. Let me know what you think.

Re: Kitchen renovation tips wanted

WOW! Thank you so much!! I'm quite blown away by how fantastic this service is, you've done such an awesome job at bringing my many visions to life in that mock up!!

I absolutely love the style you've created- what do you suggest with regards to next steps? Would the rendered drawing be something my husband and I could take into a local Bunnings to get further insight on purchasing products to utilise?

Thanks so much

Re: Kitchen renovation tips wanted

Hello @Beebop123

The immediate answer is yes, you can bring these renders to the In-store kitchen specialist and ask for a quote. However, before proceeding, I suggest measuring the entire kitchen from wall to wall including the built-in pantry and the existing wall that you're keen to knock down. It's important to take into consideration that your washing machine will need a tap and a water outlet, both of which will need to be built inside your pantry.

I suggest booking a kitchen renovation appointment with the In-store kitchen specialist. They will walk you through the entire process from beginning to end. Please make sure to bring your personal measurements and the renders that @MitchellMc made for you.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
