How to remove handle to fix leaking mixer tap?

I've looked online and at various videos for mixer tap cartridge replacement. My tap handle pictured does not appear to have a grub screw. Is there anyway to remove the handle so I can replace the cartridge?

Also tap specifications are

Watermark

AS/NZS 3718

C of C 216C8

Does this help with knowing the cartridge replacement type?

Thanks

Hello @lenron

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your mixer tap.

I suggest having a look at this discussion - Solved: How to replace cartridge on Mondella sink mixer tap by @Kwongk. If you keep scrolling down the discussion, I showed Kwongk how to remove the spindle handle and access the grub screw inside. I suspect it is the same with your tapware the thin rod handle must be removed so that you can get access to the grub screw that is underneath it. Once you've removed the tap handle you can now access the brass locking nut and remove the old cartridge. I suggest bringing it with you to compare with the ones available at the store. This will guarantee that the cartridge you pick will fit your tap mixer.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Thanks Eric

I'm now having difficulty removing the spindle handle. It seems very stuck in place. Any suggestions of what would work?

Re: How to fix leaking mixer tap?

Hi @lenron,

If you're having trouble removing it by hand, try wrapping the handle with a rag to protect the finish, then using some multigrip pliers or a pipe wrench to grasp the handle and rotate it off.

If you are still having trouble, then you can try spraying some WD-40 275g Multi-Use Smart Straw into the seam at the base of the handle, then allowing it to soak in for 5 or so minutes before trying again with your pliers or wrench.

Give this a try and let me know how you go.

Hi Jacob

I tried using multigrip pliers and some lubricant but it is still very stuck.

Re: How to fix leaking mixer tap?

Hello @lenron

Just to confirm, the thin rod handle must be turned anti-clockwise. If the multi-grip refuses to clasp on, I suggest looking at the Irwin Vise-Grip Curved Jaw Locking Plier to hold onto the handle. Please note that excessive pressure from the pliers will damage the surface finish of the handle.

Thanks Eric.

Finally I was able to remove the handle with locking pliers.

Re: How to fix leaking mixer tap?

I now have an issue accessing the grub screw.

I've tried various sized Allen keys and they don't seem to work. This is how the hole looks once the handle is removed.tap2.jpg
